Lee Martin: Ambitious for Sunderland

The new Sunderland Central constituency presents a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be part of history by electing a Conservative MP for Sunderland for the first time in 50 years. In 1997 I was one of the many who voted Tony Blair and New Labour into power. No Government could have started out with more goodwill and a better economic climate. Yet no Government has delivered less and spent more doing so.

After 13 years of Labour in power: - Almost one million 16 to 24 year olds are unemployed. - The gap in life expectancy and infant mortality between rich and poor is as wide as it was in Victorian times. - Many children get left behind at school and social mobility has stalled. - The poor have got poorer and the rich have got richer.

We can't go on like this - It's time for change. With your help we can restore prosperity to Sunderland. As leader of the city's Conservative opposition I have successfully fought for Sunderland's Iconic Bridge to be built and got Tesco to tidy up the Vaux site.

Labour has written Sunderland off and say nothing more can be done. I know we can do better and achieve more. Vote for me if you are ambitious for Sunderland and want to put it back on the map.
