The facts about the market
Lancaster City Council owned a large infood market up until the mid 1990s. It was then sold off by the Labour run Council to developers and the present market was built on the current site. This was strongly opposed by the Green Party, traders and citizens at the time.
The Labour Council entered into a 99 year lease on the current building to rent it back from the developers
