Intouch with Cambourne - Newsletter - Feb 2011

TWO NEW SCHOOLS FOR CAMBOURNE On Tuesday January 25th the County Council announced that funding has been confirmed both for a permanent school at Jeavons Wood and for new secondary school to be located in vicinity of Swansley Wood. Jeavons Wood will be a two form entry primary school with 420 pupils, and the secondary school will have five form entry and 750 pupils. Construction of Jeavons Wood should start in March 2011 and the school should be ready to receive its first pupils in September 2012. It is hoped the secondary school will open its doors in September 2013. Clayton met with Cllr John Reynolds, the County Council Cabinet Member for Resources and Performance, to show him the proposed site for the secondary school. Clayton said ‘The County Council is committed to supporting efficient and cost effective services. The money invested in these schools will save parents and children many hours each week on the school run, and will provide facilities that can be used by the wider community’

VOTE HUDSON ON FEBRUARY 17th The District Council by-election on the 17th February has been made a little more interesting by a clash of names between two of the candidates, Clayton Hudson for the Conservatives and Labour’s Gavin Clayton. This sort of thing actually happens quite frequently. Local Conservative campaigners said ‘Voters should look for the party logos to avoid voting for the wrong person!’
