We'll stop the review and save the Whittington

Andrew Lansley, the Health Secretary in charge if the Conservatives win on May 6, plans to join the Day of Action at the Whittington Hospital this week to promise his support against Labour's threat to services at the hospital. Antonia Cox, Islington's Conservative Parliamentary candidate, met Andrew at the House of Commons to make the case for the Whittington and earlier this month Mr Lansley defended the hospital on BBC's Newsnight. Closing the Whittington's A&E department could force up to 90,000 patients a year to travel to University College Hospital or the Royal Free in Hampstead · which are already full.

"Only a Conservative government will halt the NHS London reorganisation. It is the Labour government which has threatened services at the Whittington," Mrs Cox said. "A Conservative government will stop the reorganisation process and carry out a proper clinical review of London's needs, taking into account the capital's growing population and particular problems, for example in mental health provision, and our approach will ask GPs what would serve their patients best."

WHERE A 'TAX FREEZE' MEANS £20 MORE TAX

The Liberal Democrat-led Islington Council claim they have frozen Council Tax, but after closure [sic] inspection of the 2010 budget, the Lib-Dem's have removed the £20 direct-debit rebate. This means that over 44,000 Islington households will have to pay an extra £20 per year more; an effective increase of 2.1% for a band D property.

St. Mary's ward candidate for May's Council elections, Victoria Lim, said; "lt is plain wrong for the council to say there is a tax freeze, when bills will increase by £20.“ Victoria continued "The Conservatives will pledge at the next elections an initial freeze in Council tax, coupled together with 4 year plan to reduce the tax for all"

FIGHTING FOR TENANTS AND LEASEHOLDERS

Islington Conservatives local leaseholder campaigner Oriel Hutichinson [sic, should be local council candidate Oriel Hutchinson] has the support of Linda Robson.

Islington Conservatives have spent years fighting for a better deal on repairs for council tenants and Ieaseholders. From winning a key case at the Leasehold Valuation Tribunal, to forcing a town hall investigation by leading accountants Price Waterhouse Coopers into concerns about poor quality work, Conservatives know it's what you do to help, not what you say that matters. After Conservatives demanded more time to pay for council Ieaseholders facing bills of £30,000 and more, the council had to give way. In Islington and nationally, Antonia wants more repairs to homes done better. That means more competitive; tendering and reform so that Homes for lslington and Partners are accountable to the people whose homes they work on. "Poor quality building work can make people's lives a misery. So can unforeseen bills in the tens of thousands of pounds. If elected, l‘|| go on Fighting to make sure estate and street property residents are listened to," Antonia says.

CLEGGMANIA? VOTE ANTONIA

CONSERVATIVES are fighting to win in Islington South. And the recent Lib Dem surge inthe polls makes it more important than ever to vote Conservative here. Nick Clegg has said he will look at the national vote total for the Conservatives before deciding whether to back David Cameron or L Gordon Brown in a coalition. So voting Conservative in Islington South could help

Antonia come through the middle to win ~ and is guaranteed to boost the Conservative national total. That will help force Mr Clegg to back David Cameron — as well as rebuilding the Conservative alternative in Islington for the long term. Conservatives are on a roll in Islington anyway, after London turned blue by electing a Conservative mayor, a good showing in the European elections and the Helding of a full slate of 48 Conservative council candidates on May 6. With Labour potentially in third place nationally, it's time to take advantage of the changing picture. Add your vote to the Conservative national total and help make sure Mr Clegg can’t prop up Labour and let them return to government by the back door

WHAT YOU'RE SAYING

‘“Antonia knows what it's like bringing up a family in inner London. She's not a career politician - she's a working mother who has come into politics to try to do a better job than some of the people who let us domm over expenses and lobbying." Victoria Lim, St Mary's [local conservative candidate for St Mary's ward]

"I‘m really pleased Antonia's said she won‘t take the allowance inner London MPs get if she is elected I think politics needs to be cleaned up and cost us less. I like the way David Cameron's going to cut the number of MPs and freeze ministers pay." Oriel Hutchinson, Canonbury [local conservative candidate for Canonbury ward]

"l don‘t think strikers should be able to hold the country to ransom I think Antonia was right to ask our Labour MP to stop taking £2,000 a year from Unite, Labour's biggest paymaster, while the transport strikes were inflicting misery on millions of us." Flora Coleman, Bamsbury [local conservative candidate for Barnsbury ward]
