Focus on St Mary's Ward
[received in August following Euro Elections result]
Newsletter from Islington Lib Dems "Thank You - Sarah Ludford Re-elected ... She'll continue to fight in europe on your behalf, for action on crime, jobs & the environment. Here in Islington, our counting staff report that the Lib Dems have come second in Islington South & Finsbury. At a general election, it's a straight fight between Bridget Fox, and the Labour MP."
The second half of the leaflet covers 3 topics:
-
A new dispersal zone in Islington "being used by the police to tackle youth crime ... over the school holidays". Quote from former Council Lib Dem Leader James Kempton "I've been told about gangs intimidating residents and visitors, drug use & dealing [...] That's not acceptable."
-
Islington in Bloom competition - "The new flowers put in by your Lib Dem councillors have helped Islington [be] the first non-Royal inner London borough to represent the Capital since 1967"
-
Residents lose fight on new off-licence A new convenience store was granted an alcohol license "despite massive opposition from local residents". 30 letters + petition of 450 signatures.
Cllr Kempton: "It is time that we all recognised that the Labour Government's 24 hour licensing free for all was a mistake. Our hands are tied and the law has to change"
