5 good reasons to vote Lib Dem

1 The Lib Dems would scrap all student tuition fees The Lib Dems have a fully costed plan to scrap tuition fees and make sure universities don't lose out. Final year fees would go straightaway and all fees would be scrapped after six years.

2 Lib Dems would take real action on climate change We want a zero carbon Britain by 2050. We would invest in rail instead of encouraging polluting roads and runways. We would make energy efficiency a priority and would get public buildings properly insulated.

3 The Lib Dems would protect our civil liberties The Lib Dems will continue to fight to protect out hard-won liberties. We will scrap ID cards and the national identity database. We will stop the DNA of innocent people being kept by the police.

4 Lib Dems would create high-tech green jobs for graduates We would invest in renewable technologies. This would create jobs in high-tech firms developing products to cut carbon emissions.

5 The Lib Dems want to reform our democracy ot make it fair The Lib Dems want huge changes to the way Britain's political system works. We would abolish safe seats, bring in a fair voting system and enable people to remove corrupt MPs.

Reform the system

Britain's outdated electoral system means that there are hundreds of safe seats and hundreds of marginal seats. Many MPs in the safe seats were the ones guilty of fiddling their expenses. Libs Dems want to end this 'job for life' culture of safe seats and introduce proportional representation - a fair voting system where everyone's vote counts. Lib Dems want to sweep away the unfair 'First past the post' system where only votes for the top contenders in marginal seats like Cambridge can affect the result. Here is the battle between the Lib Dems and Labour. The Conservatives and Greens come along way behind in third and fourth.

Students' votes will decide Cambridge result on 6th May Votes cast in Cambridge General Election 2005 Lib Dem: 44% Labour: 34% Con: Just 17% Green: 3%
