Wimbledon Park Liberal Democrats - Why I left the Conservatives

Dear Resident, It was my privilege to represent this area as a Conservative councillor in the 1980's. My achievements included being solely responsible for the refusal of two proposals for industrial development between Havelock Road and Haydons Road station. ... It was assumed I would continue for a further four years. However, decisions were being taken both locally and nationally that were alien to my nature such as school closures, the sale of playing fields and the loss of the public hall in the Centre Court development ... The continued attacks on public services, the poll tax fiasco and the economic incompetence of Black Wednesday (when interest rates rose to 15% in a day) finally lost the Conservatives my support for good.

I do not believe my views changed, but that the party moved far from my beliefs.
